Christmas Eve in Lekkum, Nether-lands, 2005 & 2006

Every year, the protestant congregat-ion of Lekkum, Friesland, organizes a Christmas Evening in the local church. There is singing, a short play, and a sermon, all centered around and explaining the christmas-message. Many locals, whether religious or not, visit the celebration. Non-believers come, because for them too, the service is an important part of christmas eve. “It wouldn’t be complete without it.”, they say. The congregation tries, consciously or subconsciously, to get more people into touch with their Christian roots [religion] and hopes to boost the number of visitors to their church services through out the year.
